Avision Receives FAA LOA for BVLOS Operations

FAA’s new rule may soon allow routine drone flights beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS).

But Avision? We’re already in the air.

Earlier this month, the U.S. Department of Transportation finally put forward its long-anticipated proposal to normalize BVLOS drone operations. For many, it’s a sign that change is coming.

For us, it’s more like a nudge saying: “Hey — you were right to move early.”

Because we’ve already built the system. Tested it. Used it. And yes — had it officially validated by the FAA.

We recently received a Letter of Acceptance (LOA) confirming that Avision’s UAS Service Supplier (USS) platform is a certified safety mitigation tool for BVLOS — specifically in public safety missions.

 

Irving PD didn’t wait — and neither did we

Our situational awareness capabilities weren’t derived from theory. They were developed with real-world feedback from first responders performing life saving missions every day.

Most recently we worked with Irving Police Department in Texas on real deployments. Their team needed something practical: a way to safely coordinate BVLOS flights during emergency incidents, in real-time, without putting additional people in harm’s way.
So, we delivered.

Through the FAA’s NTAP process, Avision provided strategic deconfliction and conformance monitoring.

The FAA reviewed our implementation — down to the software versioning and test reports.
And eventually they signed off.

What does that mean? The system that supported Irving PD’s missions is now FAA-recognized. It’s real. It’s available.

What it means — right now

While the FAA’s new BVLOS rule is still in public comment, Avision UTM services are available under the current FAA Part 107 framework.

If you’re a public safety or commercial operator with an approved waiver, you can use our system today.

And not to sound dramatic — but when you’re facing time-sensitive emergencies, “wait until next year” just doesn’t cut it.

This isn’t about paperwork. It’s about having tools you can trust — before the moment you need them.

The FAA looked at everything. Twice.

Getting the LOA wasn’t easy. Our platform was run through a rigorous review process, including:

  • conformance with ASTM F3548-21
  • version control and software update practices
  • InterUSS interoperability testing
  • data sharing policies and SLA boundaries

It took a while. But it was worth it.

Bottom line: our system passed. And now others can build on it — no need to start from zero.

It’s live. It’s field-tested. It’s ready.

Drones are already helping save lives. We see it. We support it.
